Capilano Barbers

Brenda

Capilano Barbers is a family owned and operated barber shop that has been serving the north shore since 1960. It was purchased in the 70's by Len Carmichael and he worked at the shop until he took a position with the Barbers Association of BC. Len maintained ownership and management of the shop and had Jimmy O'Neil there to keep on eye on things. Jimmy had been in the shop shortly after it opened and worked there until he was 83. Brenda joined the shop in 1983 and is still there! Capilano Barbers is now one of, if not the longest standing barber shop on the north shore. We welcome all ages of men women and children. And we have a TV!!

Brenda trained at VVI starting in January of 1983 in the barbering program and was the first person to challenge the exam and pass without being required to do an apprenticeship. Upon finishing her training she started working at Capilnao Barbers in November of the same year. Since then she has worked on the executive of the barbers association as treasurer and was on the examining board that qualified barbers for the province of BC.  Brenda is an active member of the local community and has volunteered for various fund raisers for cuts for cancer and has built up a clientele with ages ranging from 5 months to over 100 years old. Brenda welcomes clients with special needs such as mobility requirements and sensory sensitivities.
